Town of Pelham Council approves Zoning and Official Plan amendments for cannabis operations

Cannabis Control Committee update
Tim Nohara, Chair of the Cannabis Control Committee (CCC), and Nick McDonald of Meridian Planning Consultants provided Council with an update on where the CCC is relative to their schedule of implementation of bylaws and proposed draft Official Plan Amendment and Zoning By-Law Amendment.
McDonald noted minor changes in both documents.

Pelham pool to open this summer
The Pelham pool at Marlene Stewart Streit Park will open this summer, though an opening date is not yet known. Council passed a motion on June 1, 2020, approving the pool’s opening, pending Provincial and Regional permissions and guidelines.

COVID-19 Financial Impact Forecast
As a result of COVID-19, Pelham is forecasting a tax levy operating deficit of approximately $408,666 to the end of June as a result of COVID-19 which could increase to approximately $849,820 by December 31, should the present situation remain unchanged until the end of the year.

Moment of remembrance
Mayor Marvin Junkin: "There is a noticeable void in Council tonight. Councillor Mike Ciolfi is not with us. Mike passed away on April 13 and his presence around this horseshoe, virtual or not, will be profoundly missed by staff, Council, and the people he represented.
