PELHAM PUBLIC POOL 
The Pelham Public Pool is open with a revised schedule following guidelines from Public Health and the Province around COVID-19. These guidelines have changed the sessions provided, the number of classes available, and the number of swimmers in the pool at a time. Please be aware that there will be no drop-in programs, and registration must be completed in advance.

Private rentals can be rented through Brittany MacLean and are available Saturday and Sunday from 12:00-1:00pm and 4:00-6:00pm

 Swimming Lesson Descriptions

Please be advised that the Pelham Pool is currently taking registration for Swimmer 3 lessons and higher. To follow guidelines around physical distancing, instructors will not be in the water during lessons, making it extremely important that the swimmers are strong and confident enough to be in the pool independently. At this time, there will be a maximum of 3 swimmers per class to allow for swimmers to maintain a physical distance from each other.

*Please be aware swimmers will be required to complete a swim test in order to remain in this class. To ensure physical distancing can be maintained, instructors will be instructing from the pool deck and will not be in the water during the lesson. Each swimmer must be confident and strong enough to be in the water independently

 

These junior swimmers will dive and do in-water front somersaults. Their new bag of tricks include handstands, and completion of the Canadian Swim to Survive Standard. They'll work on 10-15m of front crawl, back crawl and whip kick. Flutter kick interval training increases to 4x25m.

These intermediate swimmers will swim 5m underwater and lengths of front crawl, back crawl, whip kick and breaststroke arms while breathing. They'll cap it off with front crawl sprints over 25m and 4x25m front crawl or back crawl interval training.

These swimmers will master shallow dive entries, cannonball entries, eggbeater kicks, and in-water backwards somersaults. Surface dives will take them down to underwater swims. They'll refine their front crawl and back crawl over 50m swims of each, and breaststroke over 15m. Then they'll pick up the pace in 25m sprints and two interval training bouts: 4x50m front or back crawl and 4x 10-15m breaststroke

These advances swimmers will raise to the challenge of sophisticated aquatic skills including stride jumps, compact jump entries, and lifesaving kick like eggbeater and scissor kick. They'll develop strength and power in head-up breast stroke sprints over 25m. They'll easily swim front crawl, back crawl, and breaststroke, and complain about the 300m workout.

Rookie Patrol - Swimmer 7

Rookie Patrols develop swimming strength and efficiency with emphasis on Water Smart behaviour. Skill drills enhance capability in the water, good physical conditioning and lifesaving judgment.

 

 

Bronze Star

Fee: $92.00

Participants develop problem solving skills and decision-making skills individually and in partners. Candidates learn CPR and develop lifesaving skills needed to be their own lifeguard.

 
Please note: an endurance test of 400 metres or 16 lengths timed swim must be completed prior to the end of the course in order for the candidate to be successful.
Bronze Medallion

Fee: $163.00 (manual available for additional $45.00)

Time: 10:00am-1:00pm

 

Includes Emergency First Aid and CPR "B" training.

 

 
Requirements to register: must be 13 years of age by exam date or have successfully complete the Bronze Star Award. Proof of prerequisites will be required at the first class. Class teaches an understanding of lifesaving principles embodied in the four components of water rescue education - judgement, knowledge, skill, and fitness. Rescuers learn tows and carries, defense methods, and releases in preparation for challenging rescues of increased risk involving conscious and unconscious victims of various types.

 

 

Please note: an endurance test of 500 metres or 20 lengths timed swim must be completed prior to the end of the course in order for the candidate to be successful.

Bronze Cross

Fee: $138.00 (Manual available for additional $45.00)

Time: 10:00am-1:00pm

 

Requirements to register: must have Bronze Medallion and Emergency First Aid. Proof of prerequisites will be required at the first class. Designed for lifesavers who want the challenge of more advanced training including an introduction to safe supervision in aquatic facilities.

 

Please note: an endurance test of 600 metres or 24 lengths timed swim must be completed prior to the end of the course in order for the candidate to be successful. Bronze Cross is a prerequisite for NLS.

 

Private and Semi-Private Lessons

Private Lessons: $190.00

Semi Private Lessons: $160.00

 

Private (1 swimmer) and semi-private (2 swimmers from same household) swimming lessons are avilable during all four sessions throughout the summer. The swimmers enrolled in semi-private lessons must be less than 3 levels apart. If a child enrolled in a private or semi-private lesson is in a level below swimmer 3, a parent or guardian will be required to be in the water to assist, allowing instructors to remain physically distant.

 

 

Register

 Registration for swimming lessons will open on Monday June 14th at 9:00am.

 

COVID-19 Admission Procedure

  •  Upon arriving at the pool, all patrons are required to go through a screening process. If you or anyone in your home has any signs or symptoms of COVID-19, please stay home and self-isolate.
  • The pool house and change rooms are closed to the public. Please arrive in your bathing suit. Washrooms on the outside of the building near the skate park are open.
  • Patrons enter the pool through the side gate and leave on the opposite side of the pool house. Signage will direct you.
  • Patrons must shower before entering the pool deck.
  • Following regulations, the bather load is reduced to allow for physical distancing. To reserve a space in the pool, patrons must book their swimming time online or over the phone in advance.
  • The pool slide as per Niagara Regional Public Health is decommissioned for the summer.
  • Patrons are required to follow the guidance of the floor markers to ensure they are keeping 2 meters distance from others at all times and following the appropriate directional flow.
  • Staff will close the pool every hour between programs to sanitize high touch areas including the pool gate, ladders, handrails, restroom door handles, faucets, sinks, toilets, light switches and the guard chair.
  • Payment with credit or debit card is strongly encouraged.

Child Admittance Procedure

All children under the age of 10 must follow the Swim Admittance Procedure as advised by the Lifesaving Society and the Niagara Region Public Health. 

Pool Rules

Parent/Guardian Supervision - All parents are responsible for the supervision of their children.  Lifeguards are not babysitters and are responsible for the general safety of each patron that visits the pool.  

Showers - Every bather shall take a shower using soap and warm water before entering or re-entering the deck.

Bathing Attire - Proper swimming attire is required; street clothing is not permitted. 

Water Diapers - Water diapers are permitted per the Public Health Board.

Food & Drink on Deck - Food is not permitted on the pool deck. Water in plastic bottles is permitted on the pool deck.

Pool Toys and Water Wings - Water wings and inflatable devices are not permitted in our pool. If you require a personal flotation device please speaking with one of our lifeguards.

Viewing Area - Chairs are not permitted on the pool deck. We have two viewing areas for guests who are not swimming.

Inclement Weather - In the event of thunder and/or lightning during lessons or public swim times, it is at the discretion of the lifeguards on duty as to the amount of time (up to 30 mins.) for swimmers to remain out of the pool.  This is for the safety of the patrons and staff.

Refunds & Makeup Lessons - No makeup lessons are provided for absenteeism, pool infractions, emergency or maintenance closings, thunder, lightning, inclement weather or lessons missed due to personal schedule conflicts or illness. Refunds will be granted for registrations under the following circumstances:

  1. When a refund request is submitted in writing to cancel on the first day of the program up to and including the second day of the program or for a valid medical reason, you will receive a full refund less a $10 administration fee and daily fees. 
  2. When a refund request is submitted on or after the third day of the program, no refund will be given.
  3. Refunds will not be issued for public swim admissions. 
  4. Pro-rating and refunds are not available for days absent or for any other reason including illness.
