Private pool rentals can be rented through Stephanie Yole and are available Saturday and Sunday from 12-1 p.m. and 5-6 p.m.

Pool rules 

Parent/Guardian Supervision - All parents are responsible for the supervision of their children.  Lifeguards are not babysitters and are responsible for the general safety of each patron that visits the pool.  

Showers - Every bather shall take a shower using soap and warm water before entering or re-entering the deck.

Bathing Attire - Proper swimming attire is required; street clothing is not permitted. 

Water Diapers - Water diapers are permitted per the Public Health Board.

Food & Drink on Deck - Food is not permitted on the pool deck. Water in plastic bottles is permitted on the pool deck.

Pool Toys and Water Wings - Water wings and inflatable devices are not permitted in our pool. If you require a personal flotation device please speaking with one of our lifeguards.

Viewing Area - Chairs are not permitted on deck. We have two viewing areas for guests who are not swimming.

Inclement Weather - In the event of thunder and/or lightning during lessons or public swim times, it is at the discretion of the lifeguards on duty as to the amount of time (up to 30 mins.) for swimmers to remain out of the pool.  This is for the safety of the patrons and staff.

Refunds & Makeup Lessons - No makeup lessons are provided for absenteeism, pool infractions, emergency or maintenance closings, thunder, lightning, inclement weather or lessons missed due to personal schedule conflicts or illness. Refunds will be granted for registrations under the following circumstances:

  1. When a refund request is submitted in writing to cancel on the first day of the program up to and including the second day of the program or for a valid medical reason, you will receive a full refund less a $10 administration fee and daily fees. 
  2. When a refund request is submitted on or after the third day of the program, no refund will be given.
  3. Refunds will not be issued for public swim admissions. 
  4. Pro-rating and refunds are not available for days absent or for any other reason including illness.

Child admittance procedure

All children under the age of 10 must follow the Swim Admittance Procedure as advised by the Lifesaving Society and the Niagara Region Public Health.

Parents spend quality time with their child while having fun learning and socializing with others. Through structured in-water interaction between parent and child, this program stresses the importance of play in developing water-positive attitudes and skills.

These preschoolers will have fun learning to get in and out of the water. The instructor will help them jump into shallow water. They'll try floats and glides on their front and back, and wearing a PFD they'll learn to get their face wet and blow bubbles underwater.

These preschoolers will learn to jump into chest deep water by themselves, and get in and out wearing a PFD. They'll submerge and exhale underwater. With a buoyant aid, they'll glide on their front and back.

These youngsters will try jumping and doing side rolls into deep water wearing a PFD. They'll recover objects from the bottom in waist deep water. They'll work on kicking and gliding through the water on their front and back.

Advanced preschoolers will learn to do solo jumps into deeper water and get out by themselves. They'll do side roll entries and open their eyes underwater. They'll master short (3-5m) swims on their front and gliding and kicking on their side.

  • These youngsters get more adventuresome with forward roll entries wearing a PFD, and holding their breath underwater for up to 10 seconds. They'll work on longer front and back crawl swims, interval training and get a giggle out of whip kick.

These beginners will become comfortable jumping into water with and without a PFD. They'll learn to open their eyes, exhale underwater, and hold their breath. They'll work on floats, glides and moving through the water on their front and back.

These advanced beginners will jump into deeper water, and learn to be comfortable falling sideways into the water wearing a PFD. They'll be able to support themselves at the surface without an aid, learn whip kick, swim 10-15m on their front and back, and be introduced to flutter kick interval training.

These junior swimmers will dive and do in-water front somersaults. Their new bag of tricks includes handstands, and completion of the Canadian Swim to Survive Standard. They'll work on 10 - 15m of front crawl, back crawl and whip kick. Flutter kick interval training increases to 4 x 25m.

These intermediate swimmers will swim 5m underwater and lengths of front crawl, back crawl, whip kick and breaststroke arms with breathing. They'll cap it off with front crawl sprints over 25m and 4 x 25m front crawl or back crawl interval training.

These swimmers will master shallow dive entries, cannonball entries, eggbeater kicks, and in-water backwards somersaults. Surface dives will take them down to underwater swims. They'll refine their front crawl and back crawl over 50m swims of each, and breaststroke over 15 - 15m. Then they'll pick up the pace in 25m sprints and two interval training bouts: 4 x 50m front or back crawl and 4 x 10-15m breaststroke. *available all four sessions*

These advanced swimmers will rise to the challenge of sophisticated aquatic skills including stride jumps, compact jump entries, and lifesaving kick like eggbeater and scissor kick. They'll develop strength and power in head-up breaststroke sprints over 25m. They'll easily swim front crawl, back crawl, and breaststroke, and complain about the 300m workout. *available all four sessions*

Content is organized into three categories:

Swim Patrols develop swimming strength and efficiency with emphasis on Water Smart behaviour. Skill drills enhance capability in the water, good physical conditioning and lifesaving judgment. 

Private and semi-private lessons

COST: $190

Private (1 swimmer) and semi-private (2 swimmers) swimming lessons are available during all four sessions throughout the summer. For semi-private lessons, it is the responsibility of the participant to find their own partner. The participants involved in semi-private swimming lessons must not be any more than 3 levels apart. If a participant is in Rookie, Ranger or Star Patrol, we would not be able to accommodate this participant in semi-private or private lessons.

Lifesaving training programs

Bronze Star

Participants develop problem solving skills and decision-making skills individually and in partners. Candidates learn CPR and develop lifesaving skills needed to be their own lifeguard.

Please note: an endurance test of 400 metres or 16 lengths timed swim must be completed prior to the end of the course in order for the candidate to be successful.

 

Bronze Medallion & Emergency First Aid/CPR

Requirements to register: must be 13 years of age by exam date or have successfully completed the Bronze Star Award. Proof of prerequisites will be required at the first class. Class teaches an understanding of lifesaving principles embodied in the four components of water rescue education - judgement, knowledge, skill and fitness. Rescuers learn tows and carries, defense methods and releases in preparation for challenging rescues of increased risk involving conscious and unconscious victims of various types.
Please note: an endurance test of 500 metres or 20 lengths timed swim must be completed prior to the end of the course in order to be successful.

Bronze Cross

Requirements to register: must have Bronze Medallion and Emergency First Aid. Proof of prerequisites will be required at the first class. Designed for lifesavers who want the challenge of more advanced training including an introduction to safe supervision in aquatic facilities.

Please note: and endurance test of 600 metres or 24 lengths timed swim must be completed by the end of the course in order for the candidate to be successful. Bronze Cross is the prerequisite for NLS.

SWIM TEAM

Join Pelham's competitive swim team and become a Pelham Penguin!

This program is available to swimmers of any age able to swim one full length of the pool (25m) without assistance. There are out-of-town swim meets on Saturday mornings throughout the summer. Please note that in order for a Pelham Penguin to swim in the Regional Meet at the end of the summer, he/she must participate in at least one meet throughout the season. Parent volunteers are needed for all swim meets.
