Pelham Awarded Prestigious WALK Friendly Designation

Earlier today, the Town of Pelham received the WALK Friendly Community Designation from Green Communities Canada.

Awarded during the ACT Canada’s Sustainable Mobility and Healthy Communities Summit in Markham, Ontario, Pelham received a Bronze designation for the Town’s progress toward walkability. Pelham joins two other 2014 winners, the City of Mississauga (Silver) and Town of Minto (Bronze)—no municipality has yet attained Gold.

Time to Change Your Clocks and Smoke Alarm Batteries

As Daylight Saving Time ends on Sunday, November 2nd Pelham Fire Services is reminding everyone to please change and test the batteries in your smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors. The message is simple and the habit can be lifesaving.

“Eighty percent of child fire fatalities occur in homes without working smoke alarms. It’s a tragic statistic that could be reduced by adopting the simple habit of ‘Change Your Clock, Change Your Battery’,” said Pelham Fire Chief Bob Lymburner.

Pelham Fire Services Reminds Residents Carbon Monoxide Alarms Are Now Required in Homes

November 1 – 7, 2014 is Carbon Monoxide Awareness Week and Town of Pelham Fire Services is reminding residents that it is now the law in Ontario to install carbon monoxide (CO) alarms in homes if there is a fuel-burning appliance or an attached garage.

Sanitary Sewer Backflow Prevention Incentive Program for Residents Affected by Flooding

During their Monday, October 6, 2014 meeting, Pelham Council approved a new Sanitary Sewer Backflow Prevention Incentive Program to assist homeowners in the Town’s northeast quadrant affected by flooding from sever rain storms on May 14, 2014.

The program sets aside $165,000 to provide approximately 130 eligible properties up to $1,000 to offset the cost of installing sanitary sewer backflow preventers and waives the mandatory $210 inspection fee.
