Pelham Fire Services would like to thank everyone who contributed to making Fire Prevention Week a success from October 4-10, 2015.
“We are thrilled to have had so much participation and support for our initiatives,” said Fire Chief Bob Lymburner. “From seniors to school-aged children and in between, a lot of people were reminded of the importance of having working smoke alarms and CO detectors in their homes.”
On Tuesday, October 6th, Pelham Fire Services attended the Seniors’ Health & Lifestyle Fair at the Royal Canadian Legion. The interactive booth helped educate participants and Rick Finnemore of the Office of the Ontario Fire Marshal came out to show his support.
On Wednesday, October 7th, Pelham fire trucks were stationed at Mossimo’s Pizza from 5:30-7:30 p.m. to deliver pizza and inspect homes. Special thanks to Mossimo’s for donating the pizza.
On Thursday, October 8th, Pelham fire fighters helped local schools perform and practice fire drills, all of which were run very well. Kudos to all the well-trained and fire safe teachers and kids!
Sparky the Fire Safety Dog also made an appearance at Thursday evening’s Pelham Farmers’ Market. Younger visitors had a chance to extinguish a burning house with the help of the fire fighters, in addition to learning more about Fire Prevention Week’s message “Hear the Beep Where You Sleep.”
On Saturday, October 10th, Pelham fire fighters handed out free hot dogs while sharing fire safety messages. Special thanks to Giant Tiger of Fonthill for donating the hotdogs. Generous donations were accepted for Pelham Cares and Pelham Fire Services is happy to present $290 to the organization in time for the upcoming holiday season.
Throughout the week, Pelham fire fighters also went door-to-door in the evenings to perform home inspections and help residents test and check their alarms.
To make Fire Prevention Week learning a bit sweeter, Pelham Fire Services raffled off chocolate smoke alarms (made by Ridgeville chocolatier Sweet Thoughts) and other prizes to those who were able to correctly answer the question: “How often should you test your smoke alarm?” The winners who said “once a month” were:
• Chocolate smoke alarm: Bill McInerney, Pam Zwick, Maggie Huibers
• Chocolate “BEEP”: Olivia Abrunzo, Mason Stewart, Jonah Huibers
• Fire themed gift basket: Sloan Hunchak, Julianna Kammouli
Congratulations to all. Please pick-up your prize at Pelham Fire Station 1 during office hours.
Pelham Fire Services would like to say a special thank you to everyone who participated and helped make the 2015 Fire Prevention Week events a success!
