Skateboarders, longboarders, and fans of the sport, get ready to spend a lot of time in Pelham.
The 8,400 square foot, state-of-the-art facility planned for the Isaac Riehl Memorial Skate Park at Marlene Stewart Streit Park promises to boast features sure to excite and challenge riders of all skill levels when it opens in late Fall 2013.
Designed in partnership with New Line Skateparks Inc., a full service design and construction firm specializing in the development of skateboard parks in communities across the world, the Town’s Isaac Riehl Skate Park Design Committee has settled on the following design concept.
Features in the skate park are symbolic and significant to Pelham’s community, including:
A - 'Comfort Maple' Volcano
B - Descending Quarterpipe Memorial Entry Sign
C - 'Message to Isaac' Flat ledge with Manual Pad
D - 'Overholt Hill' Bank with Cross detailed Down Rail
E - Flat-down ledge
F - '12 Mile Creek' Snake Run
G - Minipipe with Extension Pocket
H - Slappy Wall
I - Curved Quarterpipe
J - Slappy wall with Gap and Flat rail
K- Bank with Mellow Hip
“We are proud that the new skate park design is able to honour Isaac’s memory and incorporate key landmarks of our community,” commented Mayor Dave Augustyn. “It is important to us to provide youth with a vibrant space where they can be safe and have fun.”
The community is invited to view the skate park concept designs in further detail during the Thursday, August 15th Farmer’s Market and Bandshell night from 5-7 p.m. in Fonthill’s Peace Park. Donations for the skate park will also be accepted this evening and charitable receipts available.
Funding for the project has been a combination of funds from the Aviva Community Fund Grant, the “Be Riehl, Be You” t-shirt campaign, donations from residents, community groups, local businesses, and the Town of Pelham.
