The Town of Pelham has increased the number of trips and expanded routes of Pelham Transit. On February 21st Council supported the continuation of Pelham Transit as it has become an essential service to many individuals in the Community and offers a connection to the rest of the Niagara Peninsula.
Exciting new changes to Pelham Transit will take effect on Monday, March 6, 2017. Transit will now operate on a 10-hour continuous service with seven daily trips between 7:30am-6:00pm every Monday through Saturday. Riders may utilize an additional morning and afternoon trip and have greater access to bus stops with the expansion of morning and evening routes to travel along Haist Street, Welland Road, and Pelham Street. Pelham Transit will continue to travel from North Pelham/Fenwick to Niagara College and the Seaway Mall, with connections to other regional transit systems including St. Catharines and Welland Transit. The Town’s Specialized Transit will also see a change in its hours of operation to better accommodate demand, running from 9:30am-1:30pm.
“Pelham Transit ridership is on the rise,” said Vickie vanRavenswaay, Director of Recreation, Culture & Wellness. “With this increased demand, our Transit schedules and routes will also be enhanced to meet our residents’ and visitors’ travel needs.”
Free Saturdays with Pelham Transit
A new “Free Transit Saturday” program has also been introduced, in which all riders will travel free-of-charge each and every Saturday starting March 11, 2017! This free program will be provided on behalf of our generous community sponsors.
“We are thrilled to see Pelham Transit expand and improve within the Town,” said Pelham Mayor Dave Augustyn. “By decreasing barriers to access public transit, we are able to provide an excellent service both innovatively and effectively in the community.”
Sponsorship Program
Pelham Transit also launched an updated Sponsorship program that offers three Sponsorship Levels from which local businesses can select. Through this endeavor, the Town aims to build local partnerships and promote businesses to residents and visitors throughout Pelham.
