From Environment Canada
Weather advisory issued for:
Niagara, Ont. (046700)
Current details:
Winter weather travel advisory in effect for late this afternoon and this evening.
Hazards:
Reduced visibility in heavy wet snow.
Slippery conditions due to wet roads and rapidly falling temperatures.
Timing:
Late this afternoon into this evening.
Discussion:
A sharp cold front will move through southern Ontario late today bringing with it a burst of heavy wet snow. Wind along the front may gust as high as 70 km/h. This combination of snow and strong winds may create a period of challenging driving conditions. Local snowfall amounts of 1 or 2 cm are possible. In addition, a sudden drop in temperature in the wake of the cold front could cause roads, sidewalks and parking lots to become slippery.
Travel may be hazardous due to sudden changes in the weather.
Slow down driving in slippery conditions. Watch for taillights ahead and maintain a safe following distance. If visibility is reduced while driving, turn on your lights and maintain a safe following distance.
Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to ONstorm@ec.gc.ca or tweet reports using #ONStorm.
More details on the alert are available here.
