Town of Pelham expands Youth Municipal Grant Opportunity

Press release

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

April 9, 2026

Pelham, ON – The Town of Pelham is pleased to announce an updated municipal grant opportunity for Pelham Grade 12 students. The Youth Municipal Grant opportunity will provide a $1000 grant for two graduating high school students who are pursuing post-secondary education.

The grant program was updated by Council earlier this year in response to a presentation made at the Mayor’s Budget Open House on October 1. During the presentation, Jacob Grande, a Grade 12 student at Notre Dame College School and a Pelham resident, advocated for the expansion of the bursary to support graduating students who live in Pelham, regardless of the school they attend. Council was impressed by the presentation and subsequently approved the expansion of the program, enabling all eligible Pelham residents in Grade 12 to apply for 2026.

"It is an exciting time for students as they prepare for the next steps in their education,” said Town of Pelham Mayor Marvin Junkin. “These two grants are a wonderful way to recognize outstanding local youth and their achievements while providing them with funds to continue their studies and further develop their skills."

To be eligible, applicants must submit an application to the Town, have lived in Pelham for at least one year, be currently enrolled in a secondary school or homeschool program and be in Grade 12 with plans to use the funds toward post‑secondary tuition. Students must also hold a minimum average of 65% or demonstrate consistent academic effort and improvement, and they must also have participated in community volunteer work or extracurricular activities. Applicants are also required to submit a letter of support from a teacher, coach, mentor, or other adult who can speak to their character, involvement, and achievements.

Applications are open now and will be accepted until April 30, 2026.
