Press release

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

July 4, 2025

Pelham, ON The Town of Pelham is excited to announce the successful grant application through The Next Play, an initiative by Canadian Women & Sport supported by the Government of Ontario. This $5500 of funding will support the creation of Pelham’s first-ever All-Girls Sports Camp, running this summer from July 28 to August 1 for girls aged 4 to 12.

“This is such an exciting addition to Pelham’s summer camp programming,” said Kristina Clint, Manager of Recreation, Culture and Wellness for the Town of Pelham. “The Town is proud to offer a space designed specifically to inspire and support girls in sport. Thanks to The Next Play and our dedicated partners, this camp will encourage confidence, leadership, and help build a lifelong love of physical activity.”

Pelham joins 64 other organizations across Ontario selected to participate in the 2025 iteration of The Next Play, a program designed to advance girls’ participation in sport, physical activity, and recreation. The program empowers sport leaders with training and resources to counter gender bias in programming and increase access for girls and gender-diverse youth.

Canadian Women & Sport developed The Next Play program to support organizations in engaging more girls and gender-diverse youth from diverse backgrounds in active recreation. According to Canadian Women & Sport’s 2024 Rally Report, 4 in 10 girls are more interested than ever in being active, underscoring the importance of creating programs that convert interest into sustained participation.

Over the past two years, The Next Play has trained 288 sport leaders from 140 Ontario-based organizations, reaching more than 6,000 girls through community-based programming.
