Pelham, ON – The Town of Pelham is proud to announce that Vickie vanRavenswaay, the Director of Recreation, Culture and Wellness, has been named the recipient of the Parks and Recreation Ontario (PRO) Glenn Arthur Community Impact Award for 2025. The honour was presented at the PRO Gala held Thursday, November 20 in Collingwood. The award recognizes a parks and recreation professional who has made exceptional and lasting contributions to their community through inspirational leadership, community-focused initiatives, and a demonstrated commitment to enhancing the quality of life for residents.

Throughout her 35-year career with the Town of Pelham, beginning in 1990 as Secretary to the Parks and Recreation Director and Switchboard Receptionist, Vickie has proven herself to be a dedicated and impactful leader. Her vision and commitment have helped shape Pelham’s recreation, culture, and wellness programming. She has played a vital role in the development of the Meridian Community Centre, which has become a hub of activity, connection, and engagement.

“Vickie’s passion for Pelham and its people is evident in every initiative and in the dedicated team she leads,” said Marvin Junkin, Mayor. "Her commitment to providing recreation opportunities has enriched the lives of countless residents for more than three decades. Council is grateful for her dedication and are proud to see her receive this well-deserved provincial award.”

Pelham’s recreational growth has been positively impacted by the contributions of vanRavenswaay, that include her work on successful grants that supported enhancements such as pickleball courts, splash pads, and senior wellness programming. Pelham Summerfest, Pelham Summerchill and Canada Day in Pelham, are some of the many events that vanRavenswaay has supported that have earned multiple awards and recognition, further reinforcing the Town’s reputation for exceptional community events.

“Ms. vanRavenswaay’s work has shaped not only the programs and facilities Pelham enjoys today, but the very spirit of the community,” said David Cribbs, CAO. “Through her work, she has built programs and events that create opportunities for community connections, belonging, and joy. Pelham is stronger, kinder, and more connected because of her, and she is especially deserving of this prestigious award.”

The Town of Pelham congratulates Ms. vanRavenswaay on this well-deserved recognition and celebrates her outstanding contributions to the community.
