Pelham to Honour Designated Heritage Properties at 2025 Heritage Celebration
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
July 16, 2025
Pelham, ON – The Town of Pelham is proud to recognize and celebrate eight designated heritage properties at the 2025 Heritage Celebration to be held on Tuesday, July 22, 2025.
This special event, held at the Lincoln Pelham Public Library – Fonthill Branch beginning at 5:00 p.m., is open to the public and marks an important milestone in the Town’s ongoing commitment to preserving and promoting local heritage. Attendees will join Town Council, property owners, and members of the community in honouring the unique contributions these heritage properties make to Pelham’s historical landscape. The eight sites being recognized have been formally designated under the Ontario Heritage Act and will each receive an official plaque through the Town’s Heritage in Pelham program.
“It is a wonderful opportunity to see these eight properties formally recognized for their cultural and historical value,” said Dr. Pamela Duesling, Director of Community Planning and Development for the Town of Pelham. “Each one offers a unique lens into Pelham’s past. By preserving and celebrating these places, the Town continues to lay a foundation for a community that honours its roots.”
The recognition event aligns with Town Council’s 2025 Strategic Plan update, which identifies the creation of a comprehensive heritage building inventory as a priority. Recognizing and designating heritage properties is a key step in ensuring Pelham continues to celebrate its rich past while fostering a sense of identity and continuity. Through the Heritage in Pelham program, the Town highlights and preserves buildings, landscapes, and sites of cultural and historical significance. The program also helps residents understand what a heritage designation means, how to apply for one, and showcases existing designated properties throughout the community.
Community members are encouraged to learn more about the program and discover the stories behind Pelham’s heritage buildings and sites by visiting www.pelham.ca/heritage.
