Pelham Joins 2025 ParticipACTION Community Challenge with Expanded Inclusive Community Collaboration

Press release

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

May 22, 2025

Pelham, ON The Town of Pelham is excited to take part once again in the ParticipACTION Community Challenge, running from June 1–30, 2025! Now in its fifth year of running the popular “June 30 for 30” campaign, launched in 2021, Pelham continues to lead the way in building a healthy, active, and connected community.

This year, the Town has been awarded a grant to support inclusive sport and recreation programming, helping ensure that physical activity opportunities are available and accessible for residents of all ages and abilities. The grant funding will enable Community Living Welland Pelham to provide their program participants with class passes to increase access to a wide range of programming and activities offered at the Meridian Community Centre.

The ParticipACTION Community Challenge is a national movement that invites communities across Canada to come together through physical activity. The most active community in the country will receive $100,000 to invest back into local physical activity and sport initiatives.

Pelham’s “June 30 for 30” campaign encourages everyone to get moving for 30 minutes each day throughout the month of June. Aligned with Recreation Month and Seniors Month, the initiative features a calendar of 30 different programs and activities, including drop-in classes, instructor-led sessions, public skating, and access to the indoor walking track at the Meridian Community Centre.

“The Town of Pelham is committed to making sure there’s something for everyone,” said Vickie vanRavenswaay, Director of Recreation, Culture and Wellness. “From scheduled classes to open community spaces, the goal is to offer a variety of options at the Meridian Community Centre and beyond that reflect the needs and interests of the community.”

To support Pelham’s efforts and help the community climb the national leaderboard, residents are encouraged to take the ParticipACTION Pledge to Get Active at participaction.com/individual-pledge. Taking the pledge only takes a minute and shows residents commitment to staying active throughout June—whether through a scheduled class, a walk on the track, or simply moving in your own way.
