Pelham Celebrates Official Unveiling of National Mural Mosaic at Meridian Community Centre

Press release

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

June 18, 2025

Pelham, ON The Town of Pelham is proud to announce the successful unveiling of the Canada Connects: Nature’s Sky Mural Mosaic, now on permanent display at the Meridian Community Centre. The ribbon-cutting ceremony, held on June 17, marked the official reveal of the community-driven work of art that celebrates creativity, connection, and Canadian unity.

As part of Mural Mosaic’s Global Roots Project, the Nature’s Sky mural is made up of hundreds of individual tiles, each painted by artists from across the country and beyond. Of those, 150 tiles were painted by residents in Pelham, giving the national project a strong local presence and personal significance for many in the community.

“Murals like this do more than just brighten a wall—they help inspire pride in our community and help bring people together,” said Mayor Marvin Junkin. “Community members and staff helped to paint 150 of the tiles right here in Pelham. This mural is colourful, creative, and tells a powerful story about connection.”

The ceremony included remarks from Lewis Lavoie, the creator of Mural Mosaic and the lead artist behind the Global Roots Project, who designed and brought the mural to life with his team. Since 2003, his work has brought people together through collaborative art projects across the globe.

The Canada Connects: Nature’s Sky mural will serve as a lasting symbol of collaboration, reminding all who see it of the power of art to unite communities, one tile at a time.

Residents and visitors are encouraged to visit the mural and enjoy the unique collaboration. www.pelham.ca/arts
