Pelham Celebrates Groundbreaking For Klager Park Trail

October 16, 2026

Pelham, ON –

The Town of Pelham broke ground on the new Klager Park Trail on October 14, 2026, marking the start of work to expand Pelham’s trail network and enhance resident access to natural spaces.

This project includes a 350m accessible crushed stone pathway that will connect to the Steve Bauer Trail once completed, and is being completed with the support of the Fonthill Lions Club and the Niagara Peninsula Conservation Authority.

"The Klager Park Trail is the result of work by many different community groups who have come together to support the common goal of expanding trail access in Pelham," said Associate Director of Parks and Facilities Ryan Cook. "I'm excited for the trail to be completed and used by many members of the community for years to come."

The Niagara Peninsula Conservation Authority has been a key partner on this project, and have worked to ensure the adjacent section of the Twelve Mile Creek is protected as project work continues and assist in some plantings along the trail.

"The restoration of this section of Twelve Mile Creek and creation of a new trail connection between Klager Park and the Steve Bauer Trail is an investment in the long-term health and resilience of the watershed. By stabilizing erosion-prone areas, enhancing natural habitat, and creating new opportunities for public access and environmental education, this project delivers lasting benefits for both the community and the environment,” explained Steve Miller, Senior Manager, Infrastructure Engineering and Asset Management, Niagara Peninsula Conservation Authority.  “Together we are demonstrating what can be achieved when municipalities, conservation organizations, and community partners work together toward a shared vision for stewardship and sustainability."

The majority of the new Klager Park Trail is anticipated to be substantially complete this year, with full completion including the installation of benches along the trail by spring 2027.

Town of Pelham staff, councillors, and representatives from the NPCA and Fonthill Lions Club officially break ground on the Klager Park Trail.
