Notice of Collection – Audio Recording (Proposed)

Please be advised that the Town of Pelham is proposing to implement audio recording of certain telephone or voice communications.

The proposed Video Surveillance and Audio Recording Policy (Policy No. S203-19), which would expand the Town’s existing video surveillance program to include the audio recording of certain telephone or voice communications, will be presented to Council at an upcoming Council meeting for consideration and approval. Members of the public are invited to submit written comments on this initiative to the Clerk within two (2) weeks of the date of this notice.

If approved by Council, audio recordings would be collected under the authority of section 28 of the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (MFIPPA). Recordings would be used for purposes that may include service delivery, quality assurance, training, public safety, investigations, and compliance.

Audio recording would not apply to all calls or all Town employees and would be limited to approved communication systems and designated departments.

Audio recordings would be retained for a period of fifteen (15) days, unless required for an investigation, legal proceeding, law enforcement request, or a formal access request under MFIPPA.
