Environment Canada Issues Orange-Level Air Quality Warning

Environment Canada has issued an Orange-Level Air Quality Warning for the Niagara Region beginning Wednesday, July 15 at 12:00 p.m. Northwestern Ontario wildfire smoke is expected to cause poor air quality and reduced visibility.

As smoke levels increase, health risks will also increase. Residents are encouraged to limit time outdoors and reschedule or cancel outdoor sports, activities, and events where possible.

While smoke can affect everyone, some individuals may be more sensitive, including older adults, infants and young children, pregnant individuals, and those with asthma, COPD, heart disease, or other respiratory conditions.

Those seeking relief from poor air quality are welcome to visit Town of Pelham facilities, including the Meridian Community Centre, during regular operating hours. When indoors, keep windows and doors closed as much as possible, and continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada.
