Website use related to Privacy Policy

Should the Town of Pelham make changes to the privacy policy, they will be included here. Policy changes will apply only to information collected after the date of the change.

The Town may use the information collected from you when you register, submit a form, respond to a survey or communication, browse the website, or use certain other site features in the following ways:

  • To personalize your site experience and to allow the delivery the type of content and offerings in which you are most interested.
  • To allow better service in responding to your customer service requests.
  • To quickly process your transactions.
  • To administer a website feature.

If you have opted-in to receive the e-mail newsletter, the Town may send you periodic e-mails. Visitors who register or participate in other site features will be given a choice whether they would like to be on our e-mail list and receive e-mail communications from the Town.

The Town has implemented a variety of security measures to maintain the safety of your personal information.

Your personal information is contained behind secured networks and is only accessible by a limited number of persons who have special access rights to such systems, and are required to keep the information confidential.

Yes. Cookies are small files that a site or its service provider transfers to your computer's hard drive through your Web browser (if you allow) that enables the site's or service provider's systems to recognize your browser and capture and remember certain information. They are also used to help understand preferences based on previous or current site activity, which enables improved services. Cookies are also used to help compile aggregate data about site traffic and site interaction.

The Town may contract with third-party service providers to assist us in better understanding our site visitors. These service providers are not permitted to use the information collected on behalf of the Town except to assist the Town in conducting and improving business.

 

The Town does not sell, trade, or otherwise transfer to outside parties and users personally identifiable information unless advance notice is provided, except as described below.

The term "outside parties" does not include the Corporation of the Town of Pelham and GHD. It also does not include website hosting partners and other parties who assist us in operating the website, conducting business, or providing services to users, so long as those parties agree to keep this information confidential. 

The Town may also release your information when it is believed the  release is appropriate to comply with the law, enforce the Town site policies, or protect the Town or others' rights, property, or safety.

However, non-personally identifiable visitor information may be provided to other parties for research or other uses.

 

In an attempt to provide users with increased value, the Town website does include third party links. These linked sites have separate and independent privacy policies.

The Town of Pelham therefore has no responsibility or liability for the content and activities of these linked sites. 

This online privacy policy applies only to information collected through our website and not to information collected offline.

Video Surveillance Policy

The Town is committed to enhancing the safety and security of the public, its employees, and its property while balancing an individual’s fundamental right to privacy.

The Town is committed to full compliance with provincial privacy laws regarding the notice, collection, access, use, disclosure, retention and disposal of personal information. This includes adherence to data minimization principles, which, for video surveillance, entails limiting the amount of personal information collected and retained to what is necessary to fulfill the purposes of the lawfully authorized activity.

The Town is required to provide notice of the collection of Personal Information to individuals whose information is collected. Section 29 of MFIPPA provides that individuals must be informed of (i) the legal authority for the collection; (ii) the principal purpose or purposes for which the Personal Information is intended to be used; and (iii) the title, business address and business telephone number of a public official who can answer the individual’s questions about the collection.

 

 

The collection of personal information through a video surveillance system that relates to the safe and secure operation of a public building, facility, or space and aims to deter criminal activity, promote the safety of individuals, and secure municipal assets at these public locations is considered lawful and justified and is within a municipality’s sphere of jurisdiction under the Municipal Act, 2001.  

“Personal Information” means personal information as defined in section 2 of MFIPPA, namely, recorded information about an identifiable individual, including but not limited to information relating to an individual’s race, national or ethnic origin, colour, religion, age, sex, sexual orientation or marital status.
