On Friday, June 21, 2013, Mayor Dave Augustyn and Pelham Councillors will welcome the honourable David C. Onley, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, to Pelham.
Planned for 4 p.m. is a tour of the Centennial Park playground, one of Pelham’s fully accessible playgrounds, followed by a meet and greet with the Fabulous Fenwick Lions during their biweekly Fish Fry.
Mayor Dave Augustyn and the 613 Royal Canadian Army Cadet Corps will greet the Honourable Lieutenant Governor of Ontario and introduce members of Council and of the Joint Accessibility Committee.
“Pelham is proud of our award-winning accessible playgrounds and we hope everyone can join us as we welcome His Honour and showcase this great part of our community,” said Mayor Dave Augustyn.
In 2009, Pelham received federal and provincial funding under Recreation Ontario (Ontario REC) and the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program in Ontario to replace all playgrounds and bring them up to current accessibility standards. ABC Recreation Ltd. designed and constructed the new facilities, which incorporate adult exercise equipment and bike racks. In 2011, Pelham received the Parks and Recreation Ontario Excellence in Design Award for the playground replacement project.
