News Brief
April 7, 2017
With a late-in-the-season blast of winter weather and heavy precipitation over the last few days, the Town has received several reports of slick roads, rising water levels in ditches and low-laying areas and soft shoulders on rural roads.
The Town of Pelham encourages all motorists to drive to road conditions and to employ added caution when travelling in areas that have received heavy rainfall or snow.
During these times we would like to remind drivers to allow for extra space on the roads for Town and emergency vehicles. When heavier vehicles are forced to drive closer to the shoulder they run a greater risk of being impacted by softer surfaces.
As you can see in the photo above, taken by a Town staff member on Foss Road, plows need space to effectively operate, and run the risk of incapacitation when required to alter their position on the road as a result of parked vehicles or oncoming traffic hugging the centre lane. Town plows experienced delays today as a result of weather and other vehicle-initiated issues.
