The Town of Pelham is pleased to announce that the Isaac Riehl Memorial Skatepark has been awarded the 2014 Parks and Recreation Ontario (PRO) Award of Excellence in Design.
The highly-coveted Excellence in Design Award recognizes a park, recreation and/or cultural facility or renovation project that has demonstrated high standards of planning, design, community involvement, operation and maintenance, quality of aesthetics, usability, accessibility and versatility.
“We are so proud to have won this provincial award for our skatepark,” said Recreation, Culture and Wellness Director Vickie vanRavenswaay. “It speaks to our community’s ability to rally together to create an exceptional recreational facility for all to use and enjoy.”
The Isaac Riehl Memorial Skatepark Committee worked hand-in-hand with New Line Skateparks Inc. to create a one-of-a-kind concrete skatepark that provides a compelling world-class terrain and celebrates the public space by incorporating elements and sculptures relevant to Isaac and the community.
“We appreciate the design volunteers, the donors and the sponsors who helped make the Isaac Riehl Memorial Skatepark an award-winning community asset,” said Mayor Dave Augustyn. “We look forward to formally presenting this award to the community during the grand opening in May,”
In 2011, the Town of Pelham also received the Parks and Recreation Ontario Excellence in Design Award for its nine fully-accessible playgrounds.
