Pelham Council decided during their regular meeting on Monday, September 16, 2013, to temporarily postpone the revitalization of Downtown Fenwick from the fall of 2013 to early 2014.
Council made this decision after receiving a staff report outlining the complexities of the project requirements, including:
1) total road reconstruction to address storm water and soil conditions
2) reconfiguration of overhead utility wires to an underground system
As a result, the Town is unable to complete the project before the end of this year.
“Council remains fully committed to the revitalization of Downtown Fenwick,” said Mayor Dave Augustyn. “Instead of starting construction now and impacting the downtown all winter long, we intend to start early in the new year.”
“Staff is working very hard to firm up a revitalization schedule to give the community plenty opportunity to plan and prepare for any potential disruptions that may occur,” added Ward 1 Councillor Richard Rybiak.
Planed for Downtown Fenwick are revitalization aspects such as:
• water, waste-water and storm-sewer improvements
• burying of hydro cables
• road improvements
• better streetscaping (parking, brickwork, decorative lampposts, benches and planters)
Project tendering and construction will commence in early 2014. Notices will be distributed to affected stakeholders by the end of the week.
