FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
September 20, 2024
Pelham, ON – The Corporation of the Town of Pelham has received, for the first time, the 2023 Financial Information Return (FIR) Award from the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing.
The Financial Information Return (FIR) Award recognizes municipalities for their efforts to ensure that timely, reliable and accurate financial information has been submitted to the ministry. This year, Pelham’s 2023 Financial Information Return is one of only 21 municipalities in Ontario to receive the award.
Through the FIR, municipalities provide data and statistical information through a standardized template that includes the municipalities’ financial position and activities, such as assets, liabilities, revenue, and expenses, for the previous fiscal year based on audited financial statements.
"It is encouraging to have the Town of Pelham's FIR Report receive this recognition," said Treasurer and Director of Corporate Services Teresa Quinlin-Murphy. "Financial health was identified as a key strategic plan priority and ensuring the timely completion of the FIR continues to show the team's commitment to the financial strength and sustainability of Pelham."
Information within the FIR report provided by a municipality assists the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing in delivering vital information to users of the municipal database and informing government decision-making. The annual Financial Information Return (FIR) is the primary data collection tool used by the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing to collect financial and statistical information from municipalities.
