In observance of the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-based Violence, the flags in the Town of Pelham have been lowered to half-mast and will remain lowered until December 10, 2024.
The 16 Days of Activism against Gender-based Violence is a global campaign that draws attention to the alarming escalation of violence against women. Across the world, one in three women experience violence in their lifetime and every ten minutes a woman is killed by a partner or family member.
A REDress installation is currently on display at the Meridian Community Centre and in Ridgeville during the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-based Violence.
Red dress installations continue to be used to bring awareness and are based on the 2010 installation which was developed by Metis artist Jamie Black. The use of red dresses in the display is to represent missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls.
