About The Fighting Days
Celebrate the 100th anniversary of a woman's right to vote with a play about some of the fierce Canadian women who were a part of the fight. Set in Winnipeg between 1910- 1917, The Fighting Days follows real life characters Francis Beynon and Nellie McClung. Suddenly, Canada is involved in World War I and the conscription crisis divides the suffragists: should all women have the vote, or just Dominion-born women who are sending their husbands and sons off to battle? Should women use their votes to push for conscription or lobby for a swift end to the war?
Essential Collective Theatre is a not-for-profit registered charity located in the heart of downtown St. Catharines that exists to produce contemporary Canadian theatre with a focus on new plays and Niagara work. ECT prides itself on mentoring local emerging artists, supporting playwrights, and of course, telling stories that hold up a mirror to the Niagara Region.
